Analytical Chemistry

I work for Agilent Technologies,
in their central research labs
(Agilent Laboratories). I help design instruments for chemical analyses. That means that I do things like this:

• Write software
• Do math
• Drill holes in metal
• Play with lots of other fun things

Much of my work has focused on time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Here's a fun demo illustrating the principals of TOFMS.

I play oboe and English horn in Redwood Symphony and often in a number of other groups as well. Here's a fairly complete list:

Piano

I've played piano since I was six years old. I don't have time to practice as much as I used to, but sometimes I do play in public. I can be heard playing some of the simpler keyboard parts in Redwood Symphony when I'm not needed on oboe, and I used to accompany the Sunnyvale Singers when their regular pianist wasn't available.

I'm the principal conductor of the South Bay Philharnonic, which used to be known as the Hewlett-Packard Symphony Orchestra.
